The Sanctuary at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve is a large wetland ecosystem enclosed behind a predator-proof fence that has protected native animals for around 40 years. A 2.1-kilometre wheelchair-accessible pathway winds past a series of interconnected ponds where platypus, turtles, and a rich array of waterbirds can be spotted at close range. The loop also passes the Ribbon Gum Theatre, an outdoor amphitheatre decorated with artwork by Ngunnawal artist Jim Williams.

Set within a valley of the Australian Alps, the Sanctuary brings together a mosaic of open ponds, reed beds, and surrounding bushland that supports some of Australia's most sought-after wildlife. The predator-proof enclosure means animals including long-nosed potoroos, southern brown bandicoots, and brush-tailed rock-wallabies move freely through the area, making sightings on any given visit highly likely.

The boardwalk and compacted-gravel pathway is rated Grade 1 and is suitable for prams, wheelchairs (with assistance on minor slopes), and visitors of all ages and fitness levels. VisitorAssist volunteers are stationed throughout the Sanctuary on weekends, public holidays, and school holidays to share knowledge about the animals and plants on display. The on-site Vet Centre features floor-to-ceiling windows so visitors can observe health checks being carried out on reserve animals.
