Adelaide Fringe is the largest open-access arts festival in the southern hemisphere, running for four weeks across February and March with more than 1,200 shows.
Adelaide Fringe is the second-largest fringe festival in the world after Edinburgh, running for four weeks from mid-February to mid-March. It was founded in 1960 and has grown into an open-access festival with more than 1,200 individual shows across comedy, cabaret, theatre, music, circus and visual art. The festival runs at hundreds of venues across Adelaide, from established theatres to pop-up tent venues in the city parklands.
The Garden of Unearthly Delights, a purpose-built outdoor venue in Rundle Park, is the beating heart of the festival and has been running since 2000. The Gluttony venue in the Botanic Park is its larger rival and also draws big crowds every year.
The festival runs concurrently with the Adelaide Festival (a separate, more curated arts festival) and the Adelaide Festival of the Arts, making February and March the busiest period of the year for Adelaide's cultural life. Book accommodation well in advance.
