Wildlife Coast Cruises
Seals, whales and open ocean
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Wildlife Coast Cruises has been running wildlife and scenic cruises from Phillip Island and the surrounding coastline for more than 20 years. Operating modern catamarans with indoor and outdoor seating, licensed bars, and trained naturalist guides, the company offers year-round access to the marine wonders of Bass Strait, from a colony of thousands of Australian fur seals to migrating humpback whales.
The flagship Seal Cruise departs from Cowes Jetty and travels to Seal Rocks, the offshore limestone islets adjacent to the Nobbies that support one of Australia's largest fur seal colonies. The two-hour cruise allows passengers to drift among the seals as they swim, bask, and play around the boat, with naturalist commentary explaining the ecology of the colony throughout the trip.
Between June and September the Winter Whale Cruise follows the migration path of humpback whales as they move through the Strait. Dolphin sightings are possible on all departures, and the Cape Cruise offers a scenic circuit of the island's rugged southern cliffs and sea stack formations. All vessels are fully enclosed for cold or wet weather.
Bookings are strongly recommended and can be made through the company's website. The Cowes office is open seven days a week and can assist with tour selection and scheduling for both independent travellers and groups.
