Western Plains Cultural Centre
Art, history and community
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
The Western Plains Cultural Centre is Dubbo's hub for visual art, regional history, and community cultural life. Free to enter every day of the week, it houses three distinct gallery programs, a permanently displayed regional art collection, and the Dubbo Regional Museum, where the story of the western plains unfolds from Wiradjuri Country through to the present day.
The permanent art collection centres on the theme of the animal, presenting works by some of Australia's leading contemporary artists in ways that are consistently surprising and accessible. Rotating exhibitions bring touring shows and local creative voices into the programme throughout the year, alongside workshops, talks, and performances that engage visitors of all ages.
The museum component traces life in the region from the original Thubbagah and Wiradjuri peoples through pastoral settlement and into the twentieth century. Objects, photographs, and personal histories from the Dubbo district are displayed alongside broader narratives of inland New South Wales.
The centre is open seven days and stays open until 6pm on Fridays. Accessibility features include wheelchair access, courtesy wheelchairs, accessible parking, and audio descriptions for select exhibitions.
