Stretching 2.2 kilometres along the Coral Sea, The Strand is Townsville's beloved beachfront promenade. Palm-lined footpaths connect safe swimming beaches, a stinger-resistant rockpool, a popular water park, playgrounds, barbecue areas, and a string of cafes and restaurants, all free to enjoy. It is the social heart of the city and suits visitors of every age and fitness level.

The Strand Rockpool at the northern end is a large seawater pool enclosed by a stinger net, making it safe to swim year-round without fear of jellyfish. It has shallow areas suitable for young children and wheelchair access, with lifeguards rostered daily. The pool closes on Wednesdays for cleaning.

The Strand Water Park is a favourite for families, with water slides, spray jets, water cannons, and a giant dumping bucket. It operates from 9am to 6pm during the warmer months and 8am to 5pm the rest of the year, closing on Tuesdays for maintenance except during school holidays and public holidays.

Beyond the water facilities, the promenade offers a shaded cycling and running path, outdoor exercise stations, a basketball court, and a jetty for sunset views. The palm-tree canopy and sea breeze make it especially pleasant in the early morning or late afternoon.
