One of the few places in the world where you can watch native glow worms in a purpose-built cave environment during daylight hours, this attraction at Cedar Creek Estate on Tamborine Mountain draws visitors from across South East Queensland. Guided tours run every 30 minutes throughout the day, making it easy to fit in alongside the on-site winery and cafe.
The cave facility was developed as part of a conservation initiative to protect and breed the native Tamborine Mountain glow worm. Inside the darkened cave, thousands of larvae emit their distinctive blue-green bioluminescent glow from the ceiling and walls, creating a striking natural light show. Guides explain the life cycle and habits of the species throughout the 30-minute tour.
A rainforest boardwalk at the cave exit showcases a frog exhibit and native plantings. Photography is not permitted inside the cave, but postcards and souvenirs are available. Bookings in advance are strongly recommended, particularly on weekends and during school holidays.
