Tamar River Cruises operates from the Home Point cruise terminal on the edge of Launceston's CBD and runs a range of boat trips on the Tamar River and into Cataract Gorge. The fleet departs 364 days a year, offering everything from a brisk one-hour gorge adventure cruise to a four-hour luncheon cruise down the estuary to the Batman Bridge and back.
The one-hour Cataract Gorge Adventure Cruise is the most popular option, weaving from the city waterfront into the narrow rock walls of the gorge and back. Departures run throughout the day, making it easy to slot into a wider Launceston itinerary. The commentary covers the geology of the gorge, the history of the city's waterfront, and the flora and birdlife visible from the river.
The Batman Bridge Luncheon Cruise runs four hours down the lower Tamar estuary, offering open-deck views of vineyard-covered hills, shags drying their wings on navigation markers, and the distinctive cable-stayed Batman Bridge near Sidmouth. Lunch is included and the cruise operates on selected days through the warmer months. A shorter afternoon discovery cruise offers a middle option.
The cruise terminal at Home Point Parade is a short walk from central Launceston or a brief taxi ride. Advance booking is recommended for the longer cruises.
