Symbio Wildlife Park in Helensburgh has been introducing visitors to Australian native animals since 1975. Set across 16 acres just south of the Royal National Park, the park houses more than 50 species including koalas, Tasmanian devils, eastern grey kangaroos, saltwater crocodiles, cheetahs, and red pandas, with a particular focus on conservation breeding of endangered native species.
The park runs daily keeper talks and behind-the-scenes animal encounter experiences with meerkats, koalas, and red pandas. A splash park caters to young children during warmer months, and a kiosk and gift shop are on site. Free parking is available at the entrance on Lawrence Hargrave Drive.
Symbio holds membership with the Zoo and Aquarium Association and operates captive-breeding programs for critically endangered species including the Bellinger River snapping turtle and the stuttering frog. The conservation mission distinguishes the park beyond its role as a family day out.
The park is about an hour's drive from Sydney CBD and sits conveniently along the coastal route between Sydney and Wollongong, making it an easy stop on a Grand Pacific Drive itinerary.
