Robert Stein Winery, Vineyard and Farm
Five-star wines and vintage bikes
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Set on a family farm first planted in 1976, Robert Stein is one of Mudgee's most decorated wineries, holding a coveted five Red Star Halliday rating. Visitors can taste exceptional Rieslings and Cabernets at the cellar door, enjoy farm-to-plate meals from the on-site food truck, and wander through a free motorcycle museum housing Robert Stein's personal collection of rare pre-war and post-war British bikes.
Robert Stein planted his first vines at Budgee Budgee in 1976, and three generations of the family have since built the property into one of the Central West's benchmark estates. The Riesling is a perennial standout, though the flagship reds and the sparkling wines draw equal acclaim at regional shows.
The free motorcycle museum is a genuine highlight for visitors of all ages, displaying around 17 machines ranging from a 1927 AJS and 1928 Douglas through to 1970s European trail bikes. Each machine is in working order and accompanied by period photographs and memorabilia collected by Robert over decades.
The cellar door sits alongside a shaded terrace with sweeping vineyard views. Tastings are structured and unhurried, and the on-site food truck operates daily, drawing on the estate's kitchen garden and local suppliers.
