Mount Keira towers 464 metres above Wollongong, just four kilometres northwest of the city centre, and its summit park delivers sweeping views across the coastal plain, the Pacific Ocean, and the suburbs below. An annex of Wollongong Botanic Garden, the park sits within a landscape of significant Aboriginal cultural heritage and protects remnant warm temperate rainforest on the escarpment edge.
A short 15-minute escarpment loop walk from the car park leads past the Six Daughters of the West Wind sculpture, which acknowledges the Dharawal people's creation story connected to the mountain. Multiple lookout platforms provide different vantage points over the city and coastline, and picnic areas with free electric barbecues make the summit a popular local gathering spot.
A coffee kiosk operates seasonally from the summit, serving hot drinks, snacks, and light meals. Walking trails of varying difficulty extend from the summit into the surrounding bushland, including the Mount Keira Ring Track. The park is wheelchair-accessible from the main car park to the primary lookout.
Entry is free and parking is available at the summit. The park closes on days rated as Extreme or Catastrophic fire danger, so check the NSW Rural Fire Service website before visiting during summer.
