Mataranka Homestead and Elsey Station Replica

The Elsey Station replica homestead is the centrepiece of the cultural experience at the resort, offering a tangible connection to Jeannie Gunn's account of pioneer pastoral life in the Top End. Interpretive signs around the grounds link the structures to the novel's characters and episodes, making it a worthwhile stop even for visitors staying elsewhere. The resort's lush gardens, fed by the same spring system as the thermal pools, are home to abundant birdlife including rainbow bee-eaters and red-tailed black-cockatoos.

On-site dining includes Maluka's Bar, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily, with tap beer and a casual outback atmosphere. Jeannie's Kitchen offers a more curated menu with a pizza oven operating in peak season. Accommodation ranges from powered and unpowered campsites through to motel rooms and self-contained cabins, making the homestead a practical base for exploring the region's springs, rivers, and historic sites.

Mataranka Thermal Pool is a short 100-metre walk from the resort reception through the gardens and into Elsey National Park. A separate NT Parks Visitor Pass is required for the pool itself. The homestead is located on Homestead Road, 2 minutes south of Mataranka township, with clear signage from the Stuart Highway.
