Lady Musgrave Island
Southern Great Barrier Reef day trip
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Lady Musgrave Island is a pristine coral cay on the southern Great Barrier Reef, roughly 100 kilometres northeast of Bundaberg. The Lady Musgrave Experience operates full-day tours from Bundaberg Port Marina, ferrying guests across on a catamaran for a day of snorkelling, glass-bottom boat tours, and guided island walks inside a protected national park.
The catamaran departs the marina early and arrives at the island's sheltered turquoise lagoon mid-morning. Guests can snorkel directly off the beach or from the eco-friendly pontoon, where an underwater observatory lets non-swimmers peer into the reef without getting wet. The lagoon hosts loggerhead turtles, reef sharks, manta rays, and hundreds of coral fish species.
A buffet lunch using fresh local produce is included in the tour price, along with morning and afternoon tea served on board. A marine biologist leads a guided walk through the island's pisonia forest, home to nesting seabirds, and explains the reef's ecology and conservation challenges.
Optional upgrades include premium seating, certified scuba diving, and a marine biologist experience. Tours operate year-round, with whale watching departures also available between June and October. Reef levies are added at checkout.
