Set around the 1858 Warrnambool Lighthouse precinct, Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village recreates an 1870s coastal settlement and holds the largest maritime collection in Victoria, with over 10,000 artefacts. Its centrepiece is the Loch Ard Peacock, a priceless Minton porcelain statue salvaged from one of Australia's most famous shipwrecks.
Warrnambool sits at the heart of the Shipwreck Coast, a stretch of the Southern Ocean responsible for more than 600 documented wrecks. Flagstaff Hill brings this dramatic history to life through costumed interpreters, restored heritage buildings, a working lighthouse precinct, and galleries filled with salvaged cargo, navigational instruments, and personal effects from doomed voyages.
Each evening the village transforms for Tales of the Shipwreck Coast, an outdoor sound and light show. Lasers, fog and water projections play across the darkened village as the story unfolds, including the haunting tale of the Loch Ard, which sank in 1878 with only two survivors.
The village is fully accessible and suits visitors of all ages. A cafe and gift shop are on site. The Sound and Light Show runs nightly at dusk and requires a separate ticket.
