Cylinder Beach is consistently ranked among Queensland's finest beaches, tucked between the scenic headlands of Point Lookout on the sheltered northern side of North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah). Its calm, crystal-clear waters make it a favourite for swimming, bodyboarding, and learning to surf, and the beach is patrolled year-round by Point Lookout Surf Life Saving Club. Backed by lush coastal dunes, the beach is easy to reach and has good facilities including parking, toilets, and nearby cafes.
The beach sits just steps from the main strip of Point Lookout village, making it ideal for families who want to mix a beach day with a meal or coffee without travelling far. The surf is gentle by Queensland standards, particularly in the morning before the sea breeze picks up, and the protected curve of the bay means the water rarely gets rough. Snorkellers sometimes spot turtles cruising the sandy bottom close to the headland rocks at each end of the beach.
For campers, the adjacent Cylinder Beach campground, managed by Minjerribah Camping, offers sites right behind the dunes with toilet and shower facilities. Day visitors enjoy free access to the beach itself at any time, and ample parking is available on Mooloomba Road and in the adjacent car park. The beach faces north-east, so it catches the morning sun beautifully and is naturally sheltered from the afternoon southerly winds common in winter.
