The Cunninghame Arm Footbridge is the iconic 500-metre pedestrian crossing that links the heart of Lakes Entrance to the untamed surf shore of Ninety Mile Beach. Spanning the still, glassy waters of Cunninghame Arm, the bridge delivers sweeping views of the Gippsland Lakes on one side and the rolling dunes of Bass Strait on the other, making it the most photographed spot in town.

Originally opened in March 1937, the footbridge has been rebuilt and improved over the decades and remains the main thoroughfare for anyone wanting to feel sand between their toes without driving out of town. Families, anglers, sunrise joggers and evening strollers all share the crossing throughout the year, and black swans glide below while boats work the channel.

On the far side of the bridge, a short climb through the dunes leads to the open surf beach, which is patrolled by lifeguards during summer. The beach is not suited to swimming in unsupervised areas due to strong rips, so always follow the flags. A circular walk through coastal scrub and back along the foreshore takes around two hours and rewards visitors with lookout views over the channel entrance to the sea.
