Crystal Castle and Shambhala Gardens
Giant crystals meet sacred gardens
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Set among 50 acres of subtropical gardens in the Byron Bay hinterland, Crystal Castle and Shambhala Gardens is home to the world's largest publicly displayed collection of giant amethyst and citrine crystal cathedrals. The property blends botanical gardens, sacred spaces, a world peace stupa, and daily guided wellness experiences into a distinctive attraction that draws visitors seeking both natural beauty and a moment of reflection.
The centrepiece of the gardens is a pair of enormous amethyst geode caves, among the largest in the world, along with a grove of Bodhi trees, a labyrinth, prayer flags and several meditation spaces inspired by Himalayan and Tibetan traditions. A daily program of included guided experiences runs throughout the day, with a guided garden tour, crystal singing bowl sessions and a crystal meditation all included with general admission.
The gardens themselves are planted with palms, ferns, tropical fruit trees and ornamental species that attract butterflies and native birds. Most pathways are sealed, making the main circuit accessible for prams and wheelchairs. An on-site cafe serves meals and refreshments, and a retail space stocks crystals, wellness products and gifts.
Crystal Castle is located at Montecollum, roughly 20 minutes by car from Byron Bay town centre via the Coolamon Scenic Drive through the hinterland. Booking tickets online in advance is recommended, especially during school holidays and long weekends.
